After a long career of Island woodcarving, I’m carving an honorary sculpture dedicated to the adze. Three Menehune figures will support the blade cut from the petrified wood in foreground. Main sculpture is Avocado wood 17”.
Using beautiful highly figured grain Bocotewood, here are oceanic(5) and 1 Māori fish hook hand carved replicas, 9-12. Will have Khayawood bases. started March 12.
I’m now carving three Mango wood Makau Fish hook sculptures. The wood shows dramatic color transitions. Hawaiian fishing god Ku’ula is there too.
Presently working on Kane-I-Kokala, the Hawaiian shark god that rescues the shipwrecked at sea and brings them to shore. The shark is a stylized Mako, carved from spalted Mango wood. The castaway is Redwood.
